After 30 years protecting Minnesotans in law enforcement, I founded J Flo Firearms Training with a clear mission: to provide the same level of professional firearms training to everyday citizens that law enforcement officers receive—because your safety deserves nothing less.
Three Decades of Service
My law enforcement career began with the Minneapolis Police Department, where I served for 5 years before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, where I spent 25 years and retired as a Special Agent in Charge. During my time at the BCA, I: • Led the state's SWAT team, managing high-stakes operations that demanded split-second decision-making and absolute firearms proficiency • Directed the Predatory Crimes Unit for 10 years, rescuing numerous children from dangerous situations and building cases that required meticulous attention to detail • Implemented a Tactical Man Tracking Program, combining my outdoor expertise with law enforcement tactics • Trained new law enforcement recruits at Rasmussen University, teaching firearms operation and use of force to hundreds of future officers

I'm a strong believer in the Second Amendment—and in the responsibility that comes with it.
After decades in law enforcement and firearms training, I noticed a troubling trend: too many "trainers" rushing people through minimal requirements just to hand them a certificate. These type of training operations weren't making anyone safer—they were creating risk. I founded J Flo Firearms Training to be different. This isn't about checking boxes or fast-tracking permits. It's about giving you the knowledge, skills, and judgment to carry responsibly. It's about training that actually prepares you for the weight of that responsibility.
Beyond the Badge
I've been married to my wife Ann for 30 years. Together we've raised two sons and a daughter (and gained a daughter-in-law along the way). For years, I coached youth wrestling and football, instilling discipline and confidence in young athletes throughout the community. I'm an avid outdoorsman and have been my entire adult life. I spend my time now hunting big game across North America and fishing Minnesota's waters. I recently launched J Flo Outdoors to share my outdoor knowledge and experience with others who share my passion for the wild.
