Don't have your own firearm or equipment?

No problem—J Flo Firearms has everything available for you to use during class. Just let us know when you register.

Do I need any prior firearms experience?

Absolutely not. This class is specifically designed with beginners in mind. Many students have never touched a firearm before their first class, and that's completely okay. Josh creates a welcoming, judgment-free environment where safety comes first.

I'm nervous about shooting for the first time. Is that normal?

Completely normal, and you're not alone. Josh has worked with hundreds of beginners over 25+ years of teaching. His approach is calm and patient, and no question is ever considered a bad question. Your comfort and safety are the top priorities.

Will I be the only beginner in the class?

Most classes have a mix of experience levels, and many students are first-time shooters. Everyone is focused on their own learning, and Josh ensures everyone gets the individual attention they need.

About the Instructor

What makes Josh different from other instructors?

Josh brings 30 years of law enforcement experience, including 5 years with Minneapolis Police and 25 years as a Minnesota BCA Senior Special Agent. He led the state's SWAT team and trained new law enforcement recruits for years. More importantly, he's known for his patience with beginners and his commitment to real safety over just checking boxes for a certificate.

Has Josh worked with complete beginners before?

Yes—for over 25 years. As a law enforcement trainer, Josh was particularly patient with recruits who hadn't handled firearms before, spending extra time to ensure they were comfortable and safe. That same approach defines every class at J Flo Firearms.
